20-25th August 2002  Well done to those who competed in the WKA World Championships in Marina di Massa, Massa Carrara in Northern Tuscany, Italy - you certainly made quite an impression. The above picture shows athletes from the WKA Scotland Team assembling for the tournament opening parade through Massa Carrara.
 This page is a tribute to the Scottish Squad and Coach, whose talent, skill, fitness and dedication are an inspiration to us all. It is also in appreciation to those many others; club members, family and friends; who encourage, support and assist the individual team members so that they can successfully compete at this level.
The tournament was the largest WKA amateur championships ever, with over 2000 competitors from 5 continents.  The official results have been published. They show that Scotland won 1 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze medals. Congratulations to Dale Fawcett, the new WKA World Junior Champion, Boy's light contact fighting. Congratulations also to silver medallists Jade Gilmour (2 silver) and Allan Scott; as well as bronze medallists Moray McAfee, Lindsay McLean, Aaron Towns (2 bronze), Anthony Campbell, Colin Rae, Kenneth Boylan, Scott Taylor, Yasmin Anderson, Dean Muir.

 The tournament was held at the Bell's Sports Centre, Perth on 7th April 2002.
The top 3 competitors in each section were invited to represent Scotland and Britain at the WKA Amateur World Championships in Italy. | |
